Community Building

Creating a healthy community requires the ability to reach out to, learn from, and bring in multiple perspectives into governing decisions.  Working with LARPD and Extended Student Services (ESS) staff, local nonprofit organizations and foundations, businesses, etc. will allow us to pull our resources and thought leadership for the greater good of our Livermore community.  Only together, are we, the LARPD community.

Fundraising

It takes funds to run and offer the many LARPD programs.  Yet, for some families, the wonderful programs are either 1) unknown and/or 2) out of their financial reach.  By working closely with the LARPD Foundation and other community partners, we can get more families to experience LARPD’s offerings.  Only together, are we, the LARPD community.

Program Awareness and Expansion

As a mother and active Livermore community member, my family and I have enjoyed many of LARPD’s quality programs, such as its summer camps, hosting birthday parties at its facilities, and its sports parks.  However, I am often surprised that many of my friends, with school aged children, do not know of LARPD’s amazing offerings.  By amplifying its programs - through multiple social media outlets and word of mouth - we can bring awareness and even expand the offerings, so that families can begin their active and healthy lifestyle from a young age.  Only together, are we, the LARPD community.

Board Representation

As a working parent of school-aged children in Livermore, it is important that the Board reflects the local community, including working families.  It is time that our voice is heard and becomes an integral part of our local governance.

My Approach

Who is Ruby Moppin ?

I have the ability to build authentic relationships among different constituency groups and bring them together toward a single cause, allowing me to make a positive community impact.  As a first-generation college graduate, a phenomenal sales leader in my corporate job, and avid sports fan, I  advocate for and promote youth enrichment programs, such as camps and sports, as an avenue for youth to gain personal, leadership, and life skills.  When I am off the corporate clock, you can find me on the sports field with my two boys, husband, and family dog, hiking, or hosting an event to raise funds for our local elementary school or sports program.

As stated earlier, I create community both on and off the sports field.  Through my roles as the Board Member for Granada Little League and Director of Fundraising for Friends of Joe Mitchell, I spearheaded fundraisers bringing in $70K+ for my neighborhood school to go toward sports uniforms and other learning needs.  In addition, through my strong advocacy, I successfully got my  employer to grant monies to two Bay Area nonprofits: My New Red Shoes and Abrazos and Books.  I will do the same for Livermore Area Parks and Recreation.
